Mitchell earns Big Sky honor
Kolton Mitchell, the former Lake City High star, was named the co-Big Sky Conference men's basketball Player of the Week, the conference announced on Monday.
Mitchell, a 6-foot-1 redshirt freshman guard, averaged 29 points per game in a pair of road games last week for the Vandals. Mitchell scored 32 points in a win over Pacific in Stockton, Calif., on Saturday, which was a follow-up to a 26-point game against UC Davis on Dec. 18 in Davis, Calif.
Mitchell was 20 of 29 from the field and 10 of 17 from the 3-point line, and also added six assists and nine steals on the week. He has scored in double-digits in seven games, including the last three.
It is the first weekly conference honor for Mitchell.
Carson Towt, a redshirt junior forward from Northern Arizona, was also named Player of the Week after finishing with 21 points, 17 rebounds, five assists and two steals against Southern Utah.
Eastern's Grossman named
Big Sky Player of the Week
Eastern Washington's Kourtney Grossman was named the Big Sky Conference women's Player of the Week after notching her second double-double, finishing with 15 points and 17 rebounds in a 54-46 win over UC Santa Barbara last Friday in Cheney. A true freshman, Grossman leads the Eagles with 7.2 rebounds per game, which is tied for seventh in the Big Sky. She is fourth on the team with 7.6 points per game.
WSU's Abraham named
WCC Freshman of the Week
Washington State women's basketball guard Charlotte Abraham was named the West Coast Conference Freshman Player of the Week, the conference announced on Monday.
Abraham scored 10 points while shooting .500, going 4 for 8 from the field and leading the team to a win at San Diego in the conference opener last Thursday. She also went 2 for 4 from the 3-point line, grabbing five rebounds.
Washington State hosts former Pepperdine on Saturday at noon. The Waves are coached by Katie (Baker) Faulkner, the former Lake City High and Montana basketball star.
