PRESS CHRISTMAS FOR ALL: Community turns lights on for single mom

| December 22, 2024 1:06 AM

As part of the annual Press Christmas for All campaign, we share with readers the stories of those who have received help from the program. This is one of them.

“Tara” doesn’t give up easily.

The 43-year-old mom of three went through a divorce triggered by her former husband’s infidelity, followed by a string of abusive relationships.

While healing from these experiences, Tara built a new foundation for herself and her family. She began volunteering with her church and participating in small group studies with people who have experienced the same problems.

She also started an auto detailing business in Coeur d’Alene. She’s passionate about auto detailing and takes great pride in her work — but while she’s earning enough money to pay her expenses, she fell behind on her electric bill. When her power was cut off, she couldn’t afford the late fees and reconnect fees to have it turned back on.

Support from the community helped Tara overcome this obstacle.

Through donations, Press Christmas for All paid Tara’s past due electric bill, providing the money directly the Avista. The next day, Tara’s power was turned back on. This allowed her to refocus on working and building her business to better provide for her family.

Each year, Press readers donate generously to Press Christmas for All. Money raised is distributed to Kootenai County residents.

The gift recipients are our neighbors who are struggling, including the elderly, people with disabilities, veterans, the homeless and those with mental illnesses. Many who seek assistance from Christmas for All are working, but living in poverty.

Beneficiaries of Press Christmas for All keep their dignity while the community provides a hand-up to help get them back on their feet.

Press Christmas for All is managed by The Hagadone Corp., with assistance from CharityReimagined.Org. It is a legally recognized 501(c)(3) nonprofit, run entirely by volunteers.
