NORTH IDAHO: Gotta love it!
It’s easy to forget how good we have it in North Idaho when political differences obscure the view, then I am reminded of why I love it here. I love seeing American flags everywhere — flying from poles, adorning houses, printed on bumper stickers and shirts, and displayed at businesses.
I love recognizing officials around town like seeing Councilman Roetter at Costco, Representative Redman at Union Coffee, and saying “Hi” to Senator Toews and Representative Wisniewski at the fair. Here in Kootenai County, there is no shortage of meetings, forums and town halls to hear firsthand what’s happening in the county. I’ve learned much from Coffee with the Sheriff, and recently, a KCRCC legislative town hall hosted the legislators where they shared their goals and hopes for the next session.
Another wonderful thing about living in the tip of Idaho is the love and respect for law enforcement and veterans. When I am out and about, I spy K27 stickers on car windshields and in windows at places of business. Even after Sgt. Greg Moore’s untimely death in 2015, K-27, his call-sign, keeps the memory of his sacrifice alive.
And who doesn’t love the great outdoors with three hundred days of sunshine, beautiful blue skies, a plethora of walking paths, snow kissed mountain tops and the sparkling waters of the Spokane River and Lake Coeur d’Alene.
I don’t miss the graffiti, panhandling at intersections and the smell of marijuana in public places from the other cities I’ve lived. Here, babies are loved, children’s innocence is protected, parents’ rights are respected and people wish you a Merry Christmas. Gotta love North Idaho!
