College men's basketball: UC Davis pulls away from Vandals in second half

MOSCOW — Idaho led by three points with 4 minutes left in the first half, but UC San Diego closed with a run to take the halftime lead, then pulled away for an 80-56 victory over the Vandals on Sunday before 1,410 at ICCU Arena.

The Vandals (4-7) started with a 6-0 lead before the Tritons (9-2) responded with a 9-0 run. The two teams battled back and forth with the Vandals leading 26-23 with under four minutes to play in the first half. UCSD closed on a 16-7 run to take a 39-31 lead into the half.
Tyler Mrus made 6 of 7 3-pointers and scored 20 points for Idaho. Kolton Mitchell, a redshirt freshman from Lake City High, added 12 points on 3 of 6 3s, to go with three assists and two steals.
Aniwaniwa Tait-Jones and Tyler McGhie each scored 21 points for UC San Diego, which won its seventh straight.

Idaho has a pair of road games on tap Wednesday at UC Davis and Saturday at Pacific before opening Big Sky Conference play in the new year.
