• WRESTLING

COEUR d’ALENE — Nash Larsen (106 pounds), Dominic Prangley (138), Jordan Schield (144), Logan Bradley (150), Gabe Larsen (165), Brock Armstrong (175), Riley Berger (190), Ty Paulin (215) and Logan Trujillo (285) went a perfect 2-0 on the night for Coeur d’Alene, which beat Lakeland and Kellogg in dual matches at Coeur d’Alene High’s Elmer Jordan Court on Wednesday.

Coeur d’Alene beat Kellogg 60-19, then Lakeland 46-28 in a tuneup for this weekend’s Tri-State Invitational at North Idaho College.

“We were happy with how the guys competed, but there were still some early mistakes,” Coeur d’Alene coach Jeff Moffat said. “We’ve got some guys getting tested early on and they’re up a few weights, so it will be an adjustment. Overall, I was really happy with how the kids wrestled. It’s definitely a good start, but we’ve got some things to fix as well. Credit to our kids, they competed hard.”

Lake City, which fell to Lakeland 44-33 to open the night, bounced back to beat Kellogg 46-40 in its second dual.

“I thought our kids competed really hard tonight,” Lake City coach Corey Owen said. “We got one win against Lakeland with 10 seconds left, and another with three seconds left. From 144 (pounds) and up, we knew they’re going to be our anchor those guys all wrestled really well tonight. Both Kellogg and Lakeland are hard-nosed teams and we knew it was going to be a physical night, and we didn’t back down at all, which was nice to see this time of year.”

Alden Curto (150), Cliff Eddington (190), Garrett Leonard (215) and Sebastian Mosman went 2-0 on the night for Lake City.

Kaleb Hammer (157), Zach Teal (98) and Carson Leonard (120) went unbeaten for Lakeland.

All four teams will compete in the annual Tri-State Invitational on Friday and Saturday at North Idaho College.
