NIC ROUNDUP: Four Cardinals take titles in Rockies Open
• WRESTLING
GREAT FALLS, Mont. — North Idaho College sophomore Elijah Cater (125 pounds), freshman Hoyt Hvass (133), sophomore Ethan Boulton (141) and sophomore Samuel Silveria (149) claimed individual titles in the Battle for the Rockies Open on Saturday on the campus of the University of Providence.
Cater beat Kolten Powers of NAIA Montana State-Northern by a 13-2 major decision.
Hvass, a Lewiston High product, beat Blake Woolsey of Providence by a 18-0 technical fall.
Boulton won the 141-pound division with a 19-7 major decision over Kaiden Rubash of Northwest College.
Silveria pinned Snow’s Wylie Stone in 1 minute, 55 seconds for the 149-pound title.
Chandler Loveless was runner-up at 197 and Ray Griffin third at 285 for NIC, which returns to action on Jan. 2 with a dual against Umpqua at Meridian High.

BIG SPRING, Texas — Sophomore Vaughn Weems shot 11 of 22 to finish with a team-high 27 points for the Cardinals, who fell to the Westerners of Sydney, Texas in the Howard Classic at Dorothy Garrett Coliseum.
Dace Pleasant scored 10 points for NIC, which shot 20 of 62.
Justin McCall scored 28 points for Western Texas (8-5).
NIC (6-5) faces Midland College today to conclude the tournament.
