On the wing of an eagle
On a beautiful sunny-but-chilly day on Sunday, I decided to venture up Coeur d'Alene Lake Drive to Higgens Point to take pictures of the eagles.
The drive was so serene. The lake was calm and shimmering like sparkling ice crystals dancing on the water. Fresh snow topped the surrounding mountains. It was a perfect eagle sighting day.
I got to the end and saw a few in the trees, but too far away for my little digital Canon camera to capture.
I talked to a few people with their big zoom $50,000 cameras and asked if they had sighted any along the path. I took a few pictures along the way, but nothing to write home about so I decided to go back home.
Along the way back I spotted a huge eagle in a tree alongside the road. I drove on as there was no way to turn around and I was in a lot of physical pain at that moment.
Something in me said, "Go back or you're going to miss out on something special." I also said aloud, "God, if you're there, show me, because I'm in so much pain."
I turned around and went back and parked along the side of the road that was very precarious to traffic coming by.
I got out of my car and looked up to see the most beautiful of God's creatures 50 feet or more on the top of the tree. A man nearby said it was a juvenile bald eagle, about 2 years old.
I prayed, "God, if you're there give me a sign. Let me know. I'm in pain."
I took several pictures and stood in awe of this wonderful, beautiful creature.
I got back in my car and went over the pictures I took and made them as large as my camera would allow.
On each of the pictures, I could see a perfect heart — on the wing of the eagle.
I started to cry, "Oh, my God, you answered my prayer." It came on the eagle's wing. "You are there and I am loved."
All I had to do was trust my instincts and go back, look up and experience the signs.
They come in different forms, even on the wings of eagles.
