Toys for Tots seeking donations following slow start to season

Toys for Tots is seeing a slow start to the season of giving.

“We’re down about 40% right now,” said Bill Coder with Toys for Tots. “We’re really struggling with toys for boys and girls aged 10 to 12.”

Coder recommended gifts like puzzles, balls and games, which are enjoyed by kids of all ages.

Despite a slow start to the season, there are still several upcoming events that are likely to give donation numbers a boost.

Toys for Tots will collect donations at Hayden’s Outdoor European Christmas Market, located at 1170 W. Prairie Ave., today from 4 to 8 p.m. and Saturday from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. The group will also be on site at the Oaks Club today and Saturday from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. to accept donations.

Cascadia Pizza Company is also holding its first toy drive Saturday from 11 a.m. to 9 p.m. at its Coeur d’Alene location on Appleway.

Customers will be able to donate toys while Cascadia will donate $2 from every pizza sold to Holidays and Heroes, which pairs local children with first responders to shop for Christmas gifts. 100% of proceeds from Kokanee beer sales will also go toward Holidays and Heroes.

Toys for Tots donation bins are also set up at many area retailers, including North 40 Outfitters and Walmart.
