F. Scott Rice, 81

| August 31, 2024 1:00 AM

AKA: Carroll Scott Cone

Franklin Scott Rice, 81, of Hayden, Idaho, was peacefully welcomed into Heaven on Aug. 1, 2024. He was born Oct. 14, 1942, in Miami Beach, Fla., to Mary Bracken Tate and Charles Floyd Cone.

Scott’s birth name, Carroll Scott Cone, was legally changed by his mother upon a subsequent remarriage during Scott’s childhood.

Scott attended schools in Alexandria, Va., where he was a noted cross country runner. He attended William & Mary College on a track scholarship, where he set records for his school and state in cross country.

From a young age, Scott was an avid hunter and fisherman. Be it hiking, skiing, swimming, camping, hunting for huckleberries or morels, he simply loved being in nature. He traveled to many states and countries in search of his next great adventure. He also loved traveling in Israel, the U.K. and Ireland.

Scott was introduced to Kay (Quibell) Rice in 1984, and they were married a year later. Their marriage spanned nearly 40 wonderful years. They moved to North Idaho at the beginning of 2016. He was a devoted husband to Kay and father to his stepchild, Brooke.

The veterinary pharmaceutical field was a blessing for Scott. He became a regional sales manager for all areas west of the Mississippi, including Alaska and Hawaii.

Scott’s biggest passion was spreading the Gospel of Jesus Christ and watching the Lord heal people physically and spiritually! He read a minimum of 10 chapters in the Bible every day. Starting at Genesis 1:1, he read every word to the end and then started over again. He quit counting at 25 times, and that was long ago. He loved mentoring individuals in their own life journey, as well.

He is survived by his loving wife, Kay of Hayden, Idaho; stepchild Brooke E. Rice of San Francisco, Calif.; niece Leah (and Michael) Richards of Santa Rosa, Calif.; sister-in-law Carole (and Don) McLain of Sonoma, Calif.; and several cousins.

Scott’s celebration of life will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday, Sept. 12, 2024, at Candlelight Christian Fellowship, 5725 N. Pioneer Drive, Coeur d’Alene, ID 83815.
