Rathdrum Masonic Lodge giving away backpacks today

| August 29, 2024 1:00 AM

RATHDRUM — Members of the Rathdrum Masonic Lodge will give away backpacks stuffed with school supplies from 5 to 7 this evening.

The nonprofit raised funds for its inaugural backpack program by hosting a dunk tank at Rathdrum Days.

"We all feel like we had a successful event. We were able to raise a big chunk of money to help the kids out," said Nate Brown, a Mason and one of the backpack project coordinators. "We really wanted to help families in need,"

Backpacks will be geared toward elementary, middle and high school students. Backpacks will include notebooks, markers, pencils, crayons and other supplies found on the Lakeland Joint School District school supplies list.

Supplies are limited. Packs will be given away on a first-come, first-served basis.

The pickup will be at the lodge, 15190 McCartney St., Rathdrum.

The Rathdrum Masonic Lodge requires potential members to be 18 and older and to have lived in Idaho for at least six months; be well-recommended men of good repute; have belief in a supreme being; and seek membership of their own accord.

Brown said the lodge is hoping to expand its outreach and be more involved in making a difference in the Rathdrum community.
