PREP ROUNDUP: Lumberjack girls down Priest River

• GIRLS SOCCER

ST. MARIES — Kaylynn Boyette scored her first varsity goal in the second half for the St. Maries Lumberjacks in a 3-2 Intermountain League win over the Priest River Spartans at St. Maries High on Wednesday.

“We’re seeing improvement in each practice,” St. Maries coach Amber Morris said. “Just the growth we’ve seen since Saturday’s game until today is amazing. These girls are going to have an awesome season.”

St. Maries (1-1, 1-1 IML) faces Coeur d’Alene Charter at The Fields in Post Falls next Wednesday.

Priest River (0-1, 0-1) hosts Timberlake on Sept. 5.

ST. MARIES — Carter Cook and Connor Stevens scored two goals each for the Spartans in an Intermountain League win over the Lumberjacks at St. Maries High, the season opener for both schools.

St. Maries will face Coeur d’Alene Charter next Wednesday at The Fields in Post Falls.

Priest River travels to Orofino on Friday.

OROFINO — Dani Hendrickson had 17 kills for the Wildcats in a 23-25, 33-31, 25-20, 27-25 win over the Maniacs in the season and Central Idaho League opener for both schools.

Ella Yrjana had three aces and 15 assists, Aleah Philp three aces, Jordyn Stutzke 22 digs and Ragan Oertli four blocks for Kellogg, which competes in the Bulldog Bash Tournament in Ririe on Saturday.
