PREP VOLLEYBALL: Coeur du Christ a winner in first match as full IHSAA member
COEUR d’ALENE — Junior Madeline Junkin had 10 kills and five blocks as the Coeur du Christ Saints, in their first match as a full member of the Idaho High School Activities Association, beat the Kootenai Warriors 25-18, 25-20, 25-14 in the season opener for both teams, a North Star League match at Holy Family Catholic School.
Senior Lucy Ross added five aces for Coeur du Christ, which played as an associate member of the IHSAA the past two seasons.
“It was a great first game to shake out the nerves,” third-year Coeur du Christ coach Natalie Kiefer said. “Emma (Anderson) passed really well, and Kate (Clemens) and Lucy had some really long service streaks. Madeline was a force at the net as well.”
Coeur du Christ travels to Lakeside on Thursday.
Kootenai visits Mullan on Thursday.
"This was a great first game," second-year Kootenai coach Elexus Moore-Rich said. "The kids put in some real good effort in blocking and tipping. We have things to work on and we're excited for our next game."

COEUR d’ALENE — Senior Paisley Goings had seven kills, 10 digs and three aces as the host Vikings beat the Hawks 25-14, 25-20, 15-25, 25-20 in Inland Empire League play at Viking Court.
Kaydence Green had 10 kills for Coeur d’Alene (9-0, 1-0 IEL), coming off a victory at the Kuna Classic. Bridget Maiani had 18 digs and four aces, Hannah Shafer 18 assists, Lizzy Hardy 10 assists, Gianna Callari five blocks.
“We did a great job of serving tough and disrupting their offense," Coeur d’Alene coach Carly Curtis said. “They have some dynamic hitters, and we tried to keep them out of system. We did a good job setting our block, and it allowed our defense to read and make plays.”
For Lakeland in its season and league opener, Ziya Munyer had 19 kills, Olivia Zazuetta 36 assists, Addy Jo Hocking 15 digs, Lexi Levesque four blocks, Alyssa Ryckman three aces.
On Thursday, Coeur d’Alene plays host to Sandpoint in a league match, and Lakeland is home against Post Falls in a nonleague match.

MOSCOW — Jessalyn Wilson had 15 kills as the visiting Timberwolves beat the Bears 25-16, 25-23, 25-15 in nonleague play at Bear Den.
Camryn Woodman had 11 kills, Kate Moglia 12 assists, Taylor Winey 18 assists, Daphne Neeley 14 digs.
“I’m proud of the trust and teamwork we showed tonight, especially when things got rocky in set two,” Lake City coach Michelle Kleinberg said. “Taylor and Kate (setters) rose to the challenge of balancing our offense and keeping the middles involved. Moscow played incredible defense and really challenged us with a tall, consistent block. It’s been an emotional few days for our team, so it felt good to get a road win and we play to keep moving forward.”
Lake City returns to action next Tuesday at home vs. Lewiston in an Inland Empire League match.

PRIEST RIVER — The visiting Tigers fell to the Spartans 17-25, 25-21, 25-19, 25-19 in nonleague play.
Amarijana Olivieri had 10 kills for Timberlake (0-2). Addie Archer had seven kills and 16 digs for the Tigers, Isabelle Torr 16 digs, Sophia Soumas 24 assists, Diana Nelson six blocks, Mya Reynoldson three aces.
Timberlake plays host to Clark Fork on Thursday.

PLUMMER — Junior Kimberly Pluff had four kills, five digs and six aces as the Knights opened their season at Ron Miller Court with a sweep of the Wampus Cats, who were playing their first Scenic Idaho Conference match after moving up from 1A.
Set scores 25-13, 25-12, 25-16.
Tylah Lambert had 12 assists and seven aces for Lakeside. Laila Charley had four kills, Allisue Hendrickx three aces, Ambi Aldrich two blocks.
“Kimberly had great passes, serves and swings coming from the outside position,” first-year Lakeside coach Devyn Moore said. “Tylah hustles her butt off to dish out sets to our hitters; she did a great job using everyone tonight. Saydee Peone was a huge part of our back row game; her passing was on point. Great first match ... got our first-game jitters out with a nice league win.”
Lakeside plays host to Coeur du Christ on Thursday in a nonleague match.
