WALLACE FOOTBALL

• Aug. 23

Wallace 32, Timberline 12

SILVERTON — Freshman quarterback Cooper Miller ran for two touchdowns and threw for two more — both to Julian Davis — in a nonleague win over the Spartans of Weippe at Sather Field.

Wallace coach Jared Young was pleased with his team, who went into halftime up 24-0 and never looked back.

“That’s the way you want to start a game and a season,” Young said. “We had a great first quarter. Started with a four-and-out on defense and then scored on our fourth play. Our defense played a great game, we had eight sacks and were able to get off the field.”

Miller finished with 135 passing yards on 11 completions and 141 yards rushing with two scores.

Sophomore Marley Pearce finished with 11 tackles and 2.5 sacks to anchor the Miners’ defense.

Wallace opens North Star League play next Friday against Coeur du Christ at the Marimn Health Coeur Center in Worley.

Kellogg 0, Moscow 43

MOSCOW –– The Kellogg Wildcats got blanked in their season opener at Bear Field on Friday night.

Moscow quarterback Noah Velasco completed 18 passes for 322 yards and four touchdowns, while adding another score on the ground to lead the Bears.

The Wildcats had plenty of opportunities on defense, but simply couldn’t get off the field as they allowed the Bears to convert on long third down situations all night long.

Moscow (1-0), petitioned down to play in the 4A Intermountain League with Bonners Ferry and Timberlake this season.

Kellogg (0-1), will have two weeks to make their adjustments before they travel to Ashton, Idaho, to take on North Fremont on September 6.
