Ronald 'Ron' Short, 79
Ronald "Ron" Short departed this life for eternity July 22, 2024, due to complications from Type 1 diabetes. Born to Roy and Dorothy Short in Omak, Wash., on Aug. 19, 1944, Ron was an energetic and spirited child who found his passion in football, excelling at Rogers High School. At the tender age of 12, he met the love of his life, Kathryn, and they married shortly after graduation, sharing an extraordinary journey together until her passing in 2017.
Ron dedicated over 50 years to the mining industry, establishing a remarkable career that continued to influence the field even after his retirement. His commitment to the industry was matched by his dedication to his personal life, where he and Kathryn found joy in building or remodeling every home they lived in and nurturing their extensive gardens.
After Kathryn's death, Ron found solace and joy in his daily walks at the Hayden Lake McCall Dog Park with his beloved dog, Zoe. There, he formed lasting friendships, cherishing the companionship and the beautiful Idaho surroundings.
Ron is preceded in death by his wife, Kathryn Short. He is survived by his two children, Chandra Young and Brandon Short, who carry forward his legacy of love and strength. He also leaves behind his cherished grandchildren, Chase Young (15), Cooper Young (11) and Madison Short (15), as well as his beloved siblings, Bernice Nelson, of Washington, and Larry Short, of Texas, who were an important part of his life. Ron also has many loving relatives from the Coeur d'Alene and Spokane area who will remember him fondly!
In honoring Ron's memory, his family invites friends and loved ones to celebrate his life and the indelible mark he left on the hearts of those around him.
