Coeur d'Alene School Board to discuss levy options Wednesday
Trustees of the Coeur d'Alene School Board will hold discussions and possibly take action Wednesday about running a supplemental levy election in November.
The special meeting will be at noon at Midtown Meeting Center, 1505 N. Fifth St., Coeur d'Alene.
Board members will weigh options, which include a $25 million-per-year, two-year levy that will replace the current $25 million-per-year levy but will require additional $750,000 per-year cost reductions; or a $25.75 million-per-year, two-year levy that would not require further cost reductions.
Both amounts assume enrollment remains flat and funding remains at 2024-2025 levels.
If approved by voters, the levy funds would not be available until the 2025-2026 school year.
The supplemental levy funds $2,050,000 for student athletics and extracurricular activities such as sports, music programs, drama and debate. Nearly $1.9 million goes to school safety and security, including school resource officers, safety staff and supplies. Other expenditures include school health services, school and classroom resources, Advanced Placement classes, electives and career-technical education, to name a few.

A substitute teacher pay rate increase proposal is also on the special meeting agenda. Prepared by Executive Director of Human Resources Eric Davis, the proposal includes a recommendation from district administration to increase the basic substitute teacher compensation from $110 per day to $120 per day. The rate has not changed since the 2021-2022 school year, when it was raised $10 from the 2020-2021 rate of $100 per day to the current $110 per day. It was $80 per day during the 2019-2020 school year.
