COEUR d’ALENE — Precision Tax isn’t your average workplace — and the Better Business Bureau agrees.

Precision Tax, a tax relief company in Coeur d’Alene, was awarded the 2023 Torch Award for Ethics in Idaho’s Large Business category by the BBB’s local chapter.

The BBB’s director of foundation, Meghan Compton, can recall the lasting impression Precision Tax’s application left on the judges.

“One of our BBB Great West + Pacific judges said, ‘This company’s dedication to helping their customers, often while dealing with the IRS, all while making sure their employees are fully trained and happy in their jobs, makes it an outstanding example of how to manage a large company. Their community involvement is excellent, as well,’” Compton said.

The Torch Awards for Ethics are a chance for the BBB “to recognize outstanding business role models in our community that prioritize integrity in all their practices,” Compton said. Businesses are judged on four main criteria: leadership character, workplace culture, customer relationships and community support. Precision Tax also won the Torch Award for Ethics in 1999.

“I’m beyond excited for our team,” said Precision Tax COO Michele Mulkey. “They carry out exceptional service with a high level of integrity and compassionate accountability. We encourage team members to act as trusted advisers to our clients. Team members say that making a profound difference in clients’ lives is one of the reasons Precision Tax is a great place to work.”

Mulkey believes Precision Tax’s “high level of respect for work-life balance” is a big reason they can succeed at such a high level.

“We recognize and support the whole person,” Mulkey explained. Community volunteering and fundraising is a cornerstone of the company’s culture; the Precision Tax team has worked with groups like CASA, Heritage Health, the CDA School Supply Drive and many others.

“Precision Tax has proven that a company can be more than just a place of work — it can be a force for good and a catalyst for positive change,” the company’s 2023 Torch Award application reads. “We showcase how organizations can leverage their resources and influence to contribute positively to the social fabric of their surroundings.”
