DUI patrols to increase through Labor Day

So far this summer, 70 people have died on the roads, according to the Idaho Office of Highway Safety. 

In an effort to reduce impaired driving incidents statewide, area police will increase DUI patrols through Labor Day weekend. 

“As we approach the end of summer, our focus remains on saving lives by getting impaired drivers off the road,” said Col. Bill Gardiner, director of Idaho State Police. “We want to remind everyone that choosing to drive under the influence is not only illegal but can have tragic consequences.” 

Law enforcement encourages Idahoans to arrange alternative transportation if they plan to drink and offers these additional tips: 

• Designate a sober driver before you start drinking 

• Use a ride share service like Uber or Lyft 

• If you’re at a friend’s house, consider staying overnight 

• If you see someone trying to drive impaired, take their keys and help them get home safely 

• Always wear your seat belt
