Oregon man cited after five-vehicle crash on I-90
Police cited a 74-year-old Oregon man for following too closely Thursday after he set off a five-vehicle crash that blocked all westbound lanes of Interstate 90 in Coeur d’Alene at Milepost 9.
Police said traffic was heavy and beginning to slow when the crash occurred, around 4:10 p.m.
A silver Cascadia Freightliner with a semi trailer was traveling westbound, entering slowed traffic, when it hit a brown Chevrolet Tahoe, according to Idaho State Police.
The impact caused the Tahoe to strike a Subaru Crosstrek, which in turn hit a trailer being towed by a white Ford F-150. The truck then hit a dump trailer being towed by an unidentified fifth vehicle.
The 49-year-old Post Falls man driving the Tahoe was transported to the hospital with injuries sustained in the crash. The driver of the Crosstrek, a 25-year-old Hayden woman, was transported to the hospital for observation.
The driver of the Cascadia Freightliner, a 74-year-old from Grants Pass, Ore., was cited by police.
The crash remains under investigation.
