Man gets prison for domestic battery

COEUR d’ALENE — A man will spend up to a decade in prison for brutally beating a pregnant woman, according to the Kootenai County Prosecuting Attorney’s Office.

Hunter N. Rowden, 21, pleaded guilty in June to domestic battery and violating a no-contact order, both felonies. 

First District Judge Ross Pittman sentenced Rowden this week to 10 years in prison, the maximum possible penalty, with parole eligibility after five years. 

The charges stemmed from April, when prosecutors said Rowden attacked a pregnant woman during an argument. Rowden initially prevented the woman from fleeing or calling for help, prosecutors said, though she eventually escaped to a friend’s residence. 

The woman sustained multiple injuries, police said, including a bloodied face and bruising to her body. Police later observed blood on Rowden’s knuckles and clothes. 

After Rowden’s arrest, a judge ordered that he be held on $250,000 bail and issued a no-contact order barring him from contacting the woman. However, prosecutors said Rowden attempted to contact her, violating the court’s order. 

Rowden was previously convicted of violating a separate no-contact order on two occasions, in December 2023 and March 2024.
