A graveside service for Hazel D. Hickman, age 91, will be held Friday, Aug. 16, 2024, at 1 p.m. at the Worley, Idaho, Cemetery. Pastor John Meek will officiate at the service. Hazel passed away Aug. 6, 2024, at Schneidmiller House in Coeur d’Alene, Idaho.

She was born Oct. 6, 1932, in Coffeyville, Kan., to William F. and Rose Belle (Cochran) Slusher. Her family moved west to Kingston, Idaho, where she attended school and graduated from Kingston High School in 1948. 

Hazel married John Earl Cooper, who was in the Air Force, in 1952. The couple traveled all over the world and eventually made their home in Idaho in 1964. The couple later divorced. Hazel married William C. Hickman in 1976, and they made their home near Worley, Idaho, where they farmed. Mr. Hickman passed away in 2013. Hazel worked as a financial administrator for most of her adult life.

Hazel was a member of the Tekoa Golf Club. She enjoyed oil painting and home decorating. Hazel was a fantastic cook, was an avid co-pilot in a 172 Cessna airplane. She loved playing cards with her friends, loved to travel and had great pool parties at her home. Hazel loved her grandchildren, great-grandchildren and her great-great-granddaughter. 

Survivors include her children, daughters Teresa Ann (Terry) Rice of Kingman, Ariz., Nancy (Robert) Quinn of Hayden, Idaho, Alice Cooper of Mead, Wash., and step-daughter Naoma Dreher (Monte) of Airway Heights, Wash.; daughter-in-law Kristi Cooper from St. Maries, Idaho; brother-in-law is Kenneth Sperry. Also surviving are 12 grandchildren, 23 great-grandchildren, and one great-great-granddaughter. She is also survived by several nieces, nephews and cousins. She was preceded in death by her son, Ronald John Cooper, sisters Ruth Lindsey and Ethel Sperry, and brother James Slusher.
