TRADE WORKERS: Thank you for what you do

| August 11, 2024 1:00 AM

As with many homeowners, my husband and I have been hiring numerous trades persons to help us with normal repair and maintenance work on our home we built 20 years ago. Nothing really major, other than a deck replacement, but the normal attention a home needs as the years go by.

We’ve had an electrician, an appliance repair person, a landscaping group, an exterminator, a painter, a blinds repairman. These are all very important and significant persons and professions that any homeowner depends on without giving much thought to them unless they are needed. And believe me…. they are needed!

We as a society set aside weeks and even months to honor certain groups of people in our society. We set aside one day, Labor Day, to honor all these individuals/laborers, who all of us need at one time or another; those that in actuality keep our society running. Other additional very significant laborers such as nurses, grocery store employees, plumbers, truck drivers, policemen, firemen, etc. would be included; all help make our daily lives livable and safer.

I would like to take this opportunity to GENUINELY THANK all those individuals who give so many hours of their day to serve the people of our country; they rarely get the Thank You they deserve. We honor you every day, not just one day at the end of summer.

And the Idaho State lawmakers need to seriously reconsider replacing the state money to higher education they have recently taken away. Many of these laborers could not afford, without help, the trades schools they attend to make their professions happen so they can be productive members of society.
