DRIVING LESSON: No turning on red right arrow
To the driver behind me who laid on the horn when I was stopped at the red arrow before turning right onto West Riverstone Drive from North Lakewood Drive (next to McDonald’s): Idaho Code 49-802 states that:
(3c) A driver facing a steady red arrow indication shall not enter the intersection to make the movement indicated by the arrow and, unless entering the intersection to make a movement permitted by another signal, shall stop at a clearly marked limit line, but if none, before entering the crosswalk on the near side of the intersection, or if none, then before entering the intersection and shall remain stopped until an indication permitting movement is shown. (underlining mine)
In other words, there is no “go right on red” if it’s a red arrow instead of a circular red light. In your defense, many drivers are not aware of this rule since it only applies in Alaska, California, Colorado, Georgia, Idaho, Maine, Minnesota, Nebraska, Nevada, New York, North Carolina, Virginia, the District of Columbia and Puerto Rico.
