Fred Birdsall, 61

Fred Bennett Birdsall, 61, passed away peacefully surrounded by friends and family singing and praying over him Friday, July 26, 2024, at his home near Kelso Lake, Idaho. Memorial services will be held at Canvas Church, 2200 N. Seventh St., Coeur d’Alene, Idaho, on Saturday, Aug. 17, 2024, at 11 a.m. 

Fred was born to Robert and Lillian Birdsall on Nov. 27, 1962, in Mountain View, Calif. As a child, he played Little League baseball. At age 13, the family moved to Coeur d’Alene, Idaho. Fred graduated from Coeur d’Alene High School in 1980, where he wrestled.

He served his country in the United States Navy for six years. Afterward, Fred went into business with his father, Bob, and brother, Archie, and formed Birdsall Construction & Foundation in 1988.

Fred married Darcy Omstead on July 6, 1991, in Coeur d’Alene. He was a diligent worker who could fix anything. He loved God, the outdoors and his family. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, trapping, reading and sharing the Word of God. Fred helped found Northern Lakes Bible Church in Rathdrum.

He is survived by his wife of 33 years, Darcy Birdsall of Athol, Idaho; son Benjamin Birdsall of Coeur d’Alene; two daughters, Natalie (Kaden) Foster of Evans, Wash., and Kaitlin (Ethan) Frantz of Coeur d’Alene; and five grandchildren, David, Calvin, Ava, Norah and Mark. He is also survived by two brothers, Bruce (Debbie) Birdsall of Fernwood, Idaho, and Archie (Jodi) Birdsall of Careywood, Idaho; four sisters, Helen (Paul) Eriksen of Denver, Colo., Kathy (Wayne) Foster of Coeur d’Alene, Barbara (Jimmy) McCart of Post Falls and Aurore (Bernie) Markell of Post Falls; as well as numerous nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Robert and Lillian Birdsall, brother Bobby Birdsall and sister Carol Abelow.

Fred left an indelible mark on many lives and was exceptionally good at loving people and sharing the gospel. He was a mentor to numerous young men and a shining example of how to live for Christ in a fallen world.
