Elaine Thomas, 86

Ruth “Elaine” Thomas, beloved wife, mother, grandmother and aunt, passed away July 30, 2024, at the age of 86. Born on June 24, 1938, Elaine was the cherished daughter of Catherine Arlene (Hooper) and Donald Carr.

Elaine is survived by her loving husband, Ken Thomas, who shared a lifetime of love and companionship with her. She will be deeply missed by her children, Edward (Angela) Thomas and Victoria (Todd) Iverson and her adoring grandchildren: Alyssa Iverson, Austin Iverson, Mason Thomas and Abigail Thomas. Elaine was a pillar of strength and love for her family and community, always providing warmth and guidance throughout their lives. In addition to her immediate family, Elaine is survived by her sister, Shirley Smith, and several nieces and nephews who held a special place in her heart.

Elaine was known for her kindness, generosity and unwavering faith. She loved volunteering at the local VFW Women’s Auxiliary, where she would help sell Buddy Poppies every year. She also prided herself on her many years at Coldwater Creek, where she made many lasting friendships. Her legacy of love and compassion will forever live on in the hearts of all who knew her.

A funeral service to honor and celebrate Elaine’s life will be held at 11:30 a.m. Wednesday, Aug. 14, 2024, at Yates Funeral Home — Hayden Chapel, 373 E. Hayden Ave., Hayden, Idaho. A viewing is planned for 10:30 a.m. Elaine will be laid to rest at 1 p.m. at Coeur d’Alene Memorial Gardens. The VFW Women’s Auxiliary will provide light snacks from 2 to 4 p.m. at the Elks Lodge, 1170 W. Prairie Ave., Coeur d’Alene, ID, 83815.
