FIREWORKS: They threaten our homes

| August 4, 2024 1:00 AM

When we started reading the editorial “It’s time to snuff illegal fireworks,” dated July 31, we were at first pleased that you would be taking a stand in supporting the law and common sense regarding the use of illegal aerial fireworks. When we read further, we were very disappointed with what you propose as a solution. Do you actually think that the solution to let people break the law a little bit is the way to go?

We live near Canfield Mountain. It’s a beautiful area but gets only the moisture that nature provides. We have friends and neighbors whose backyards are up against the mountain. They are vulnerable to wildland fire if one gets started. Actually, depending on the situation, the whole neighborhood could be put in danger.

Every year since we’ve lived here there have been illegal aerial fireworks in our neighborhood. Our HOA has tried to get them stopped but the people don’t seem to care about our concerns. Neighbors, who live right up against the mountain, have even found debris from the illegal aerial fireworks in their backyards and on their roofs. We’re finally hopeful that we are getting the police to pay attention to our concerns. The phone number to report illegal fireworks is 208-967-0743.

We don’t know the solution to this problem, but allowing illegal fireworks is not the solution. The problem has been ignored far too long.
