Leonard Ted Nickelby, 78

Ted passed away peacefully at Scheidmiller Hospice House in Coeur d'Alene, Idaho, on July 26, 2024. Ted was born Feb. 25, 1946, at the Providence Hospital in Wallace. He was the son of the late Leonard and Lorraine (House) Nickelby. He married Patricia on May 31, 1980, and they had 44 wonderful years together. 

Ted was in the Army, a member of the Wallace Elks 331 and was Elk of the Year at one time. He loved playing Santa Claus for 38 years. He tramped all over to various mines, then went to work for Hecla Mining Co. He worked in Republic, Wash., Challis, Idaho, and Winnemucca, Nev., then returned to Wallace in 2000. He retired from Hecla in 2001. He loved boating, motorcycle riding, ATVing, fishing, golfing, camping and having a beer or two. He lived his life to the fullest. 

He was preceded in death by his parents, two sisters, one brother and a nephew. He is survived by his loving wife, Patricia, at the family home, two daughters, Kristina and Theresa, five grandchildren, two nephews, one niece and many good friends. 

Services will be held at 2 p.m. Aug. 17, 2024, at the Wallace Elks. It will be a potluck.
