Big weekend about to begin in Coeur d'Alene

| August 1, 2024 1:05 AM

One of Coeur d'Alene biggest weekends will be even bigger this year.

The 32nd annual Coeur d’Alene Downtown Association’s Street Fair, the 56th annual Art on the Green at North Idaho College and the 36th Taste of Coeur d'Alene at City Park, all starting Friday and continuing through Sunday, are being joined by the Coeur d'Alene Antique and Classic Boat Festival at The Coeur d'Alene Resort Boardwalk that runs Saturday and Sunday.

The street fair on Sherman Avenue will feature seven blocks of food, crafts, music and goods.

"True street food enthusiasts can indulge in a variety of options such as Azar’s Greek Food and Charlie’s Cheesecakes during the event," a press release said. "With a host of options, local businesses like Bear Paw Cookies, Gelato by the Lake, and Woops Bakeshop and more will all be joining Street Fair."

A free shuttle bus will be available, taking patrons to and from Street Fair and Art on the Green. Shuttle stops are at Third Street and Sherman Avenue, Seventh and Sherman, and in front of the Student Union Building with buses arriving every 30 minutes.

The shuttle service will run from 11 a.m. to 7 p.m. Friday and Saturday, and from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. Sunday.

Sherman Avenue will be closed from the intersection of Lakeside and Northwest Boulevard to Seventh Street beginning 2 a.m. Friday and remain in effect until 6:30 p.m. Sunday.

Taste of Coeur d'Alene organized by the Panhandle Kiwanis will include entertainment, a beer garden and more than 100 food and crafts vendors.

"Coeur d’Alene City Park on beautiful Lake Coeur d’Alene in the summer is the ideal location for this event, attracting more than 50,000 seasonal and year-round residents and tourists, over three days," a press release said.

The 56th annual Art on the Green will fill the North Idaho College grounds with colorful creations, eclectic music and more.

Many favorites will return this year, as well as new offerings. In addition to over 100 booth artists, NIC's Aspiring Artists and seven youth booths for those 18 and younger, the festival will offer free entertainment all weekend, including art- and music-based kids entertainment activities. For the adults, cool drinks will be served at the craft beer and wine tent.

This year's artists will come from 11 different states and 40 new artists will join the fun.

The Antique and Classic Boat Festival, which is usually later in August, runs 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday and 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Sunday. Scores of classic cruisers, polished to perfection, from sporty smaller models to large cruisers will line the boardwalk. People are welcome to check them out.

All the events are free to visit.

The forecast Friday to Sunday is for sunny skies with temperatures close to 100.
