BORAH: Closure would be tragic

| April 21, 2024 1:00 AM

As a Coeur d’Alene resident of 40 years, the changes in our once tightknit community saddens me enough to consider leaving it all behind.

There was a time when we banded together as a whole, for the greater good of our city. We listened, with open minds and the ability to be empathetic to others’ circumstances.

In recent years we’ve seen an influx of newcomers who are well off. Now there’s thousands of apartments and houses being built at rapid speed, but still not affordable in comparison to wages.

For the first time in many, many years, we saw last year’s school levy fail the first time around and now we are seeing the potential of one of the oldest schools, Borah, may close its doors and all the negative inputs and careless attitudes about a traumatic uprooting of innocent children who have flourished under the staff who know individual needs and go the extra mile to show they care for their wellbeing.

The snide and unsupportive comments betray your non-local, transplant entitlement. Maybe the smell of money has afforded you like-minded local greed mongers to befriend you, to sell you real estate, or as simple as a show of status.

Your abrasive attitude wreaks of California and may have served your shallow purpose well there, but in our slice of heaven here, we rally together and support each other. If negativity is how you stroke your ego, California is calling you home. Bye bye.
