A Post Falls man was sentenced to prison Thursday for his role in a shooting that left two people hurt.

Elijah James Hocking, 20, was convicted of aggravated battery with a deadly weapon enhancement and unlawful discharge of a firearm.

District Judge Scott Wayman sentenced Hocking to a 15-year prison sentence with parole eligibility after seven years for aggravated battery and a 15-year prison sentence with parole eligibility after seven years for unlawful discharge of a firearm at a dwelling house, according to a press release from the Kootenai County Prosecuting Attorney's Office.

The charges stemmed from an incident Nov. 25, 2023, after Hocking had been kicked out of a party in Coeur d’Alene, the release said.

It was alleged that Hocking had displayed a gun before pointing the gun to the head of a female at the party. Initially, Hocking left the party without incident after being asked to leave, the release said.

"However, almost immediately after leaving, Hocking shot through the door to the residence several times striking two males inside," the release said

Officers responded and provided medical attention to the victims, who were taken to the hospital, treated and later released.

Officers arrested Hocking and retrieved the firearm used in the shooting, the release said.

Aggravated battery is a felony punishable by up to 15 years in prison and the deadly weapon enhancement allows a judge to extend that sentence by up to 15 years.

Unlawful discharge of a firearm at a dwelling house is a felony punishable by up to 15 years in prison.

At sentencing, Deputy Prosecuting Attorney Molly Nivison recommended a 20-year prison sentence with parole eligibility after seven years for aggravated battery and a 15 -year prison sentence.
