Grant Allaway singled to score Cooper Lenz in the first inning for Timberlake, which scored three unearned runs in the first inning of the opener to take a 4-0 lead.

In the nightcap, junior Ethan Pecor scored the winning run on a wild pitch with two out in the bottom of the seventh to give the Tigers the sweep, as Timberlake rallied with three runs in the seventh.

“We just started stringing some hits together,” Timberlake coach Bryce Johnson said. “It was probably the most gritty, gutsy win we’ve had since I’ve been here. (Freshman) Ryker Brennan threw the ball through the hail and rain and didn’t give up any free bases and Gage Haines had a couple of big at-bats for us. It was a lot of them coming through when we needed them.”

Trey Gibson had two RBIs in the second game for St. Maries (9-8), which hosts Grangeville on Saturday in a Central Idaho League doubleheader.

Timberlake (8-6-1) travels to Freeman for a doubleheader on Tuesday.
