ROOSEVELT: Save this precious place

My dad attended school at the Roosevelt in the early 1900s. He rode a horse in from Cougar Gulch. He really was one who walked/rode for miles to school!
As a native Coeur d’Alenean, I have seen many landmarks removed and it feels as if little by little the town’s history is vanishing. I’ve always been puzzled as to why we want to tear down/abandon old structures in place of new.
One thing I’ve always admired about Europe is how they reuse old buildings, honoring the environment and their culture. Why take down a beautiful old building, with a granite foundation 42 inches thick and huge old growth timber logs that run the length of the building and replace it with run-of-the-mill two-bit townhouses?
