PREP SOFTBALL: Nordman fans 14 for Viks in opener

COEUR d’ALENE — Junior Leah Nordman struck out 14 as the Coeur d’Alene Vikings beat the Lewiston Bengals 12-6 in the first game of an Inland Empire League softball doubleheader Tuesday at Larry Schwenke Field.

Lewiston came back to win the second game 13-4.

Preslie McLauglin hit a two-run double and finished with three RBIs in the opener for Coeur d’Alene (5-3, 3-1 IEL). Jenna Davenport went 2 for 3 with two RBIs and two runs scored, and Molly Nelson had two hits and scored three times.

Jenny Barney, who started the first game in the circle for Lewiston (5-5, 5-1) until taking a line drive off the knee, homered in each game for the Bengals. Ashland Schnell was 6 for 8 with a homer and seven RBIs on the day for Lewiston. She relieved Barney in the opener, and fanned six in the second game.

Coeur d’Alene travels to Post Falls on Tuesday for a doubleheader.

COEUR d’ALENE — Junior Madalynn Blood pitched a one-hitter in the nightcap as the host Timberwolves swept the Bulldogs in IEL play.

Blood also went 3 for 3 with three RBIs and two runs scored in the second game for Lake City (6-2, 4-0 IEL). 

Layla Gugino went 3 for 4 with two triples and a double, four RBIs and three runs scored in the opener for the Timberwolves. Sammie Chavez drove in four runs, Kendra Schiley three for Lake City in the first game.

Karsyn DeMent hit a two-run double in the second game for the T-Wolves.

The lone hit for Sandpoint (3-6, 0-2) in the second game was a one-out single in the second.

Lake City travels to Lewiston on Saturday for an IEL doubleheader.

MEDICAL LAKE, Wash. — Acacia Pecor pitched a one-hitter in the opener, and the visiting Tigers scored in all 11 innings to sweep the Cardinals in nonleague play at Rienking Field.

Pecor struck out 11 in the opener for Timberlake (5-6), the lone hit a two-out single in the first inning. She also had two hits and drove in three runs.

Alilah Dykes went 5 for 7 with seven runs scored on the day for the Tigers. Casey Whaley hit a two-run double in the first game, and finished with five RBIs on the day.

In the second game, Medical Lake (2-5) led 5-2 after two innings before Timberlake caught up, then put the game away with 10 runs in the sixth.

Pecor homered in the second game, and finished the day 4 for 9 with five RBIs and three runs scored. 

Logan Walsh was 5 for 9 with six RBIs and five runs scored on the day for the Tigers. Jesi Kitchin and Mackenzie Johnson each drove in four runs.

“Our bats finally came around today,” Timberlake coach Casi Lupinacci said. “All of my kids made solid contact with the ball. Acacia was tough on the mound. I was happy with the way we fought back in the second game.”

Timberlake plays host to St. Maries on Thursday.
