BONNERS FERRY — Genesis Prep’s boys shot 347 to beat Kellogg by 36 strokes and win an invitational tournament at Mirror Lake.

Kellogg’s Brodie Robinson led the way for the boys, shooting a 81 to take the medalist honors. 

Head coach Danny Kenyon believes the Wildcats may need a few weeks to round into form, but their younger team members are hungry and pushing their older counterparts. 

“The upperclassman will turn it around as the season continues,” Kenyon said. “But our freshman boys have the golf bug as they say and will be a factor in the boys' success this season.”
Bonners Ferry, led by the 1-2 finish of Braylyn and Avery Bayer, shot 417 and won by 128 strokes.

BONNERS FERRY — Sophomore Jack Woods struck out eight in a complete game in the opener for the Badgers, who split a nonleague doubleheader with the Wildcats at Bonners Ferry High.

“Jack pitched a very, very good game,” Bonners Ferry coach Tom Turpin said. “We had a good game defensively in the opener. It was just a good, clean game.”

Senior Travis Eixenberger struck out four over six innings in the second game for the Wildcats.

“Eixenberger pitched a really strong game,” Turpin said. “We started Trey (Bateman) in the second game, and they came out swinging the bats. They definitely earned it in the second game.”

Kellogg hosts Orofino on Friday at Morehouse Field in Osburn.

Bonners Ferry (4-12) travels to St. Maries for a doubleheader on April 11.

POSTPONEMENTS

Rain and snow in the area wiped out a majority of prep events on Friday afternoon.

Central Idaho League baseball and softball games between Orofino and host Kellogg were postponed, as well as a softball doubleheader between Colville and host Timberlake.

Prep tennis matches pitting Moscow and Lewiston at Post Falls and Lakeland were also postponed.

No makeup dates were announced. The Kootenai Invitational at Harrison Flats, scheduled for today, was canceled.

CIL baseball and softball doubleheaders between visiting St. Maries and Kellogg, also scheduled for today, were postponed, with no makeup date announced.

HALL OF FAME BANQUET

COEUR D’ALENE –– Former Wildcat, and current Wallace golfer Stephen Paul was named the 3A - 1A Golf Player of the Year. 

Playing at Sage Lakes in Idaho Falls, Paul shot a two-day total of 8-under-par 132 to win the 2A individual title by 10 strokes and help the Wildcats to a third-place finish at state. He also won the district title with a 65.

Other finalists: Seth Swallows, St. Maries; Beau Jones, Lakeside; Luke Butler, Priest River; CJ Elliott, Genesis Prep.

Along with athletic performance honors, the fourth annual Duane Hagadone High Character Award winners were announced at the banquet.

This award goes to a nominated female and male athlete from each school.

It is named after Duane Hagadone, who founded the North Idaho Hall of Fame 62 years ago. In defining the award, it recognizes a student-athlete who excels in the classroom and as a teammate, has an outstanding work ethic and integrity, displays sportsmanship and true character in all walks of life, and is just an all-around good individual. Civic and community involvement is a bonus.

Following the awards ceremony, there were drawings for eight $500 scholarships for the high school student-athletes. To win one of the drawings, a student-athlete had to be nominated for an award and be present at the banquet.

The nominations, finalists, and winners are selected by the North Idaho Hall of Fame committee, composed of members from various communities in North Idaho.
