North Idahoans may be able to see partial solar eclipse

| April 8, 2024 1:00 AM

COEUR d'ALENE — A partial solar eclipse is expected to be visible in the Coeur d'Alene area this morning.

It begins at 10:40 a.m., reaches its maximum view at 11:35 and ends at 12:33 p.m., for a total duration of one hour and 53 minutes, according to Time and Date.

According to the National Weather Service, the forecast is partly cloudy, so there could be some visibility of the eclipse.

Coeur d'Alene will see 27% of the sun eclipsed by the moon at its max, according to Time and Date. Boise is projected for 35%, Pocatello at 43% and Idaho Falls at 42%.

Weather permitting, tens of millions who live along a narrow stretch from Mexico's Pacific coast to eastern Canada can look skyward today to glimpse the day turning to twilight when the moon blots out the sun.

Eclipse glasses are a must to prevent eye damage.
