PREP ROUNDUP: Post Falls catches on in opener, but splits IEL twinbill with Lewiston
• BASEBALL
LEWISTON — As Post Falls coach Kurt Reese described, it was a little hit and miss.
The weather, not the games.
But, after a little early morning drizzle, the games went on.
Junior outfielder Brandon Morrison had three hits, including two doubles and four RBIs for the Trojans, who beat the Lewiston Bengals 19-2 in the first game of an Inland Empire League doubleheader at Church Field on Saturday.
“Brandon had a huge day,” said Reese of Morrison, who also scored two runs. “We came out on fire, focused as a team and hit the ball.”
The doubleheader, previously scheduled for Post Falls High, was moved to Lewiston at 5 p.m. on Friday.
“We were looking at the forecast, and if it rained much more, we’d have to cancel at home,” Reese said. “Lewiston only had one field playable. It was a little touch and go, but once we got going the sun came out and it was a nice day.”
Junior Caleb Jimmerson also had four RBIs and CJ Elliott struck out seven in the first game for Post Falls.
Lewiston won the second game 2-1 to split the twinbill.
“We just couldn’t finish today,” Reese said. “We need to find a way to stay focused throughout the entire day. Kudos to Lewiston. They played tough and had amnesia after that first game and just played tough.”
Post Falls (7-2, 4-2 IEL) travels to Coeur d’Alene for a doubleheader on Friday.
Lewiston is 5-5, 2-4.

RATHDRUM — Once senior Zeb Blattstein set the tone, his Viking teammates soon followed on the mound.
Blattstein struck out five in three innings, allowing one hit in the first game of the Vikings Inland Empire League sweep of the Hawks at Gorton Field.
“Zeb came out and really commanded the zone,” Coeur d’Alene coach Erik Karns said. “It’s really where we need him to be. The guys that came in after him just really filled the zone, but Zeb really set the tone in the first three innings.”
The start of the first game was delayed 15 minutes due to rain.
“We really appreciated (Lakeland coach) Al (Bevacqua) and those guys getting the field ready,” Karns said. “We were just happy to get to play. It was a slow drizzle, but nothing that North Idaho kids aren’t used to playing in.”
Kolbe Coey had four RBIs, and Tyler Voorhees and Nolan Christ added three RBIs each in the second game for Coeur d’Alene (6-4, 4-2 IEL), which hosts Lewiston in a doubleheader on Tuesday at Ted Page Field.
