RATHDRUM — An injured hiker was rescued off Rathdrum Mountain on Saturday.
A distress call to Northern Lakes Fire District came in around 3:45 p.m. The caller said a male had broken an ankle in a fall on the Story Walk Trail and couldn't walk.
Engine 523 and a medic responded with rescue gear, a press release said.
Despite steep, wet terrain, the rescue team found the injured hiker nearly a mile beyond the trailhead. The patient was transferred onto a basket affixed to a specialized device to assist with maneuverability throughout the descent, the release said.
The patient was transferred to Kootenai Health.
