Owl Cafe building could become Hayden community center

The historic Owl Cafe at 9178 N. Government Way in Hayden could become a community center through Hayden Urban Renewal (HURA), which was formed in 2005 to help the city of Hayden improve and redevelop areas for improvement of urban design with the provision of public art and strategic planning of projects and plans oriented toward job creation.

Hayden residents and business owners Joel and Karen Pearl of Pearl Realty bought the place with original plans to move their office (at 9493 Government Way) there and add a new restaurant. They were approached by HURA and changed their plans.   

Editor's note: This report was edited to reflect that the Owl Cafe could become a community center. It is a possibility, not a done deal.

Gesa Credit Union adds state line place

Gesa Credit Union has added an Idaho branch at 317 S. Beck Road at State Line.

Four new places will join Beck Road building

With a summer opening planned, four businesses will occupy the new building under construction at 264 S. Beck Road at State Line.

With Garco Construction in charge, the places will be Wendy's, Joint Chiropractic, The Man Shop and probably Capriotti's Sandwich Shop. Project manager is Michael Barr.

NAPA Auto Parts also on Beck Road

A new NAPA Auto Parts place has joined the fast-developing area at 344 S. Beck Road.

• After several years in the Silver Lake Mall and before that in downtown Coeur d'Alene, Lynn Rinker is retiring and closing her Memory Lane store April 24. She offers high-end vintage jewelry, rocks, gems and antiques and will also sell her showcases, curio cabinets and fixtures. • With the groundbreaking for new buildings for Grocery Outlet and 7-Eleven stores, North Point Plaza is being constructed in the northeast corner of Highway 41 and Poleline Avenue. • A food court project called Eats on Spokane Street is coming soon to property at the corner of Second Avenue and Spokane Street in Post Falls. Located next to Post Falls Brewing Co., it will open in the summer with a shed-roof pavilion with roll-up doors and restaurant tenants of Melfit Healthy Kitchen and Nachos Cantina, an indoor dining space and restrooms. • HeatPraxia, previously at 404 E. Sherman Ave., will be at 1080 E. Lakeshore Drive in September.

• Runge's Furniture at 303 E. Spokane St. is remodeling and will add Trader Joe's in about half the space.

• Buck Knives will be in Riverbend Commerce Park at 660 S. Lochsa St. in Post Falls.

• A new larger building for The Oval Office is under construction on Spokane Street in Post Falls. It should be complete this summer with owner Raci Erdem, general contractor Rob Harsh and architect Mark Latham.

• A Marriott Hotel will be on about a half acre at 602 and 612 E. Sherman Ave. The six-story hotel will include 131 guest rooms, 130 parking stalls among the main level and three levels underground, an administration area, a bar, kitchen, lounge, dining area, meeting area, laundry, fitness room and a rooftop patio bar.

• A new facility for Peak Health and Wellness Center is under construction at 4425 N. Fennecus Road in Post Falls. It will move in August from 927 E. Polston (Suite 101). The new place will include eight indoor and eight outdoor pickleball courts, strength equipment, cardio and group fitness, a kids' club, juice bar, pro shop and full locker room.

• The Goodwill store on Fourth Street will reopen in the summer with a $3 million remodel.

• DOMA Coffee Roasting Company will open a cafe in the 3,000-square-foot main floor in the new building off the Centennial Trail at 3091 S. Atlas Road. It includes indoor and outdoor seating with views up and down the river, coffee, tea and local pastries and takeout. • The Marcus Anderson building under construction at 8182 N. Wayne Drive in Hayden has commercial units to be occupied by Ascent Counseling and Marcus Anderson Family Foundation (now at 8382 N. • The Thomas George building under construction at Third Street and Front Avenue downtown will be 18 stories. It will comprise 60 condominiums on floors 4-18 with garages, an on-site concierge, a 24-hour gym, golf simulator, indoor-outdoor pool and a lakeview community terrace.
