PREP ROUNDUP: Vikings get rolling on the road

VANCOUVER, Wash. — Forget the bus.
Coeur d’Alene got to the winners circle through the air on Friday.
Sophomore Caden Symons threw for four touchdowns as the Vikings beat the Union Titans 40-10 at McKenzie Stadium on Friday.
“With back-to-back long road trips, it was good to see the kids respond this way tonight,” Coeur d’Alene coach Shawn Amos said. “We’ve got some areas to work on, but the kids did a really good job.”
Coeur d’Alene fell 28-16 to Woodinville last Thursday in Bothell, Wash.
Senior running back Carsen Speelman and sophomore Isaac Rook also had rushing touchdowns for Coeur d’Alene (4-2), which opens 5A Inland Empire League play at Lake City next Friday.
“It was nice to have a lot of balance and kids contribute in the right way tonight,” Amos said. “We did a much better job of not putting ourselves in bad positions with penalties as well. It was a good night.”
Union, which beat Coeur d’Alene last season 40-20 at Viking Field, is 1-4.

SPIRIT LAKE — Jonathan Hansen scored on a 5-yard touchdown run for the Tigers in the fourth quarter of a loss to the Diggers, who have won four of the last five state 3A titles, at Van Tuinstra Memorial Field.
Sugar-Salem running back Carson Harris ran for 101 yards and three touchdowns as the Diggers (6-0) outgained the Tigers (4-2) 569-248.
“There’s a reason why they’re the No. 1 team in the state,” Timberlake coach Kelly Amos said. “They just outmanned us the entire game and it was tough. They had a big, shifty running back that we just couldn’t deal with and we couldn’t shut them down. They’re super physical and athletic and we had a tough time getting anything going. They just played hard, physical football.”
Timberlake has a bye next week, then visits Lakeland on Oct. 13.
