PREP ROUNDUP: Wallace tops Genesis Prep, wins league title

POST FALLS — The visiting Wallace Miners wrapped up the Scenic Idaho Conference championship with a 25-15, 25-19, 11-25, 25-19 victory over the Genesis Prep Jaguars on Tuesday night at The Courts at Real Life.

Jillian Russworm had 10 kills, 15 digs and two aces for Genesis Prep (11-4, 1-2 SIC). Laya Daniels had 11 kills, six blocks and two aces for the Jaguars, Madi Cooper five kills, six digs and two aces, Pearl Covey nine digs and three aces, Ella Martin seven digs and two aces.

“We played great tonight,” Genesis Prep coach Paula Thurston said. “Slowed down in the first set, and lost our lead, but fought back in sets two through four. Wallace is a strong team, and to be able to take a set from them was an accomplishment in itself. Both teams played great and we had some very fun and very long rallies. It was a fun one to be a part of.”

Wallace (10-0, 4-0) travels to Clark Fork on Thursday.

Genesis Prep visits Priest River on Friday.

POST FALLS — Kylie Munday had 12 kills, 11 assists, two blocks, seven digs and three aces as the Inland Empire League-leading Trojans swept the visiting Bengals 25-19, 25-19, 25-13 at The Arena.

Trinity Byrne had eight kills for Post Falls (20-3, 6-0 IEL). Lucy Carr added 18 assists, Vanessa Kison 15 digs, Lexi Norisada seven digs, Danielle Codd four aces, Sam Anderson two blocks.

“Our transition and serve-received were much better,” Post Falls coach Willow Hanna said. “Our hitters made really smart decisions.”

Lewiston is 3-6, 0-5.

Post Falls competes at the Linda Sheridan Classic on Friday and Saturday in Spokane.

ST. MARIES — Senior Lily Daniel 33 assists and 10 aces as the host Lumberjacks avenged their only Central Idaho League loss with a 25-22, 25-19, 21-25, 25-23 win over the Wildcats in their annual Pink Out match for breast cancer awareness.

Ava Stancil had 10 kills and 13 digs for St. Maries (11-6, 4-1 CIL). Mia Asbury had eight kills and four aces, Naomi Mueller 13 kills and two blocks.

“Great night of volleyball,” St. Maries coach Rachele Fischer said. “It’s our homecoming week too, which is always a hard week on us, just a lot going on for the girls and makes it more difficult to focus. It was good to see the team come out strong. Kellogg is a tough opponent for us, and we were able to use our aggressive serving to our advantage, and our hitters were moving the ball around to find areas to score. It would have been good to do it in three, but it was still a good win for us, even in four.”

For Kellogg (5-1, 3-1), Maddie Cheney had 12 kills and two blocks, Dani Henrikson 16 assists and four aces, Raven Oertli 14 assists, Brielle Hei 23 digs, Emily Coe two blocks.

St. Maries travels to Timberlake on Thursday.

Kellogg plays host to Orofino on Thursday.

CHATTAROY, Wash. — The visiting Tigers fell in five sets to the Rams, 16-25, 25-19, 25-9, 21-25, 15-5.

Amerijana Oliveri had 13 kills, six digs and two aces for Timberlake (3-7). Jesi Kitchin had nine digs, five kills and two aces, Rilynn Kaiser six digs and three aces, Diana Nelson three kills and three blocks, Jozee MacArthur 21 assists, Madison Miller six digs and four kills.

Timberlake plays host to St. Maries on Thursday.

BONNERS FERRY — Despite being shorthanded, the visiting Knights pushed the Badgers to four sets before falling 25-18, 25-16, 23-25, 25-15 in nonleague play.

Kimberly Pluff had seven kills, 25 digs and four aces for Lakeside (2-6). Martina Rivera added seven kills, 20 digs and five assists, Rayna Schatz four kills and 16 digs, Kylee Shot With Arrow four kills and eight blocks, Tylah Lambert three kills, 18 assists, 12 digs and two aces.

“We were missing a lot of players who play a big role on our team and the girls pushed through last-minute changes and played hard tonight,” Lakeside coach Te’a Kolar said. “I’m very proud of the effort they put in.”

Bonners Ferry is 3-4.

Lakeside plays the Post Falls JV II team on Thursday in Post Falls.

COEUR d’ALENE — Junior forward Kason Pintler scored on an assist from Ronan Sternberg in the 21st minute to give the Vikings the lead, but the Bulldogs scored three unanswered goals to win the nonleague match on senior night at Viking Field.

Senior Jett Longanecker had two goals and two assists for Sandpoint (7-3), which plays at Lakeland today.

Sternberg also scored in the 13th minute for Coeur d’Alene (8-3), which travels to Moscow on Saturday.
