Cheryl Lynn Hughett, 66
Beloved to her family and local community, Cheryl Lynn Hughett, 66, died last May 6 of this year due to cardiac arrest. A gentle spirit who listened without judgment, she was an avid writer and artist throughout her life. She graduated from Evergreen State College with a degree in art. She became a skilled artist and craftswoman, excelling in everything from geometric string art, oil and watercolor paintings, woven bargello pillows (a kind of needlework), original clothing and purse design to woodworking.
During her high school years, Cheryl was highly athletic, participating in dance and gymnastic performances, and both snow and water skiing. During a yearlong sojourn in her 20s, she traveled widely, backpacking through Europe, parts of the Middle East and India. Exposure to the art and cultures of other countries influenced her future artistic work.
Later in life, she sought to help others through her artwork and crafts, hoping to sell some of her finished products and donate the proceeds to charity. She cared deeply about victims of violence, particularly women. As practiced in her artistic work, she was inspired by the beauty of nature.
She is survived by her parents, Joyce and Ted Hughett, and her two sisters, Nancy and Julie Hughett, all of whom miss her and think of her with love and affection. She was remembered during a memorial at the home of her parents.
