Former Coeur d'Alene High star Prka earns national NAIA honor

KANSAS CITY, Mo. — Carroll College quarterback Jack Prka, a junior from Coeur d'Alene High, was named NAIA Football Offensive Player of the Week.

Prka engineered a fourth-quarter comeback last Saturday, erasing a 20-point deficit and giving No. 10 Carroll a 21-20 win on the road over Rocky Mountain in Billings, Mont.

Prka was 28 of 45 for a school-record 407 yards and two touchdowns.

He's the only Carroll quarterback in program history to eclipse 400-plus passing yards in a single game.

Prka also made a game-saving tackle on a fumble recovery.

Carroll (3-0, 1-0 Frontier Conference) plays host to conference newcomer Arizona Christian today.

Zags give new roles to Norvell, Sanz

SPOKANE — Gonzaga men's basketball coach Mark Few announced the promotion of Zach Norvell Jr. to assistant coach, and Jorge Sanz will add assistant coach to his role as director of basketball operations.

The new roles are designated thanks to a new NCAA coaching rule. Sanz got the additional title after being director of basketball operations for five seasons. Norvell is now an assistant coach after serving as a graduate assistant for the program the past two seasons.

This past summer, Sanz was a member of the under-18 Spanish national team coaching staff. He helped guide Spain to a silver medal at the U18 European Championships.

A native of Zaragoza, Spain, Sanz has been an assistant coach with the Spanish National Team since 2018 and collaborates with the Spanish Basketball Federation (FEB).

Prior to coming to Gonzaga, Sanz spent eight seasons at Florida Atlantic, serving as video coordinator, director of basketball operations and assistant coach under Mike Jarvis (2010-2014) and Michael Curry (2014-2018).

Norvell was a standout guard for Gonzaga in 2017-18 and 2018-19. He made 174 three-pointers during his time with the Zags, and scored 1,023 points in his Zags career.

Following Gonzaga, Norvell made five appearances in the NBA, three with the Golden State Warriors and two with the Los Angeles Lakers. He also played in the G League for the South Bay Lakers and the Santa Cruz Warriors.
