PREP ROUNDUP: Lakeland boys get goals from eight players

RATHDRUM — Goalkeeper Jacob Ludwick moved up top in the final eight minutes and scored his first goal of the season in the 78th minute as the Lakeland Hawks defeated the visiting Priest River Spartans 8-0 in nonleague play Monday at Sunrise Rotary Fields.

Ethan Smith (center back) and Nolan Arredondo (defensive midfielder) also were pushed up in the second half and notched their first goals for Lakeland (2-3-1).

“We were trying to give some of our seniors who had not scored yet some chances,” Lakeland coach Nick Haynes said.

Austin Parks had a goal and two assists for Lakeland, which led just 1-0 until it scored twice in the final three minutes of the first half.

“Priest River was hustling, working hard; their keeper (Baylor White) made some great saves, they made us work a little bit,” Haynes said. “Us trying to play more possession, instead of booting the ball forward and trying to score, that opened things up a bit.”

Priest River is 2-7.

Lakeland returns to action Saturday at Moscow.
