PREP ROUNDUP: Coeur d'Alene boys rally in final moments to top Sandpoint

COEUR d’ALENE — Ronan Sternberg scored the go-ahead goal on an assist from Keaton Gust in the 75th minute to lift the Coeur d'Alene Vikings past the Sandpoint Bulldogs 2-1 in a nonleague match at the Coeur d'Alene High soccer field on Saturday.

After a scoreless first half, Sandpoint’s Jett Longanecker opened the scoring on a free kick in the 57th minute. Coeur d’Alene tied the match on a goal by Garrett Scheuermann in the 73rd.

Coeur d’Alene (7-1-0) hosts Lake City on Tuesday at Viking Field.

Sandpoint (4-3-0) hosts Moscow on Thursday.

SPOKANE — Junior Jacob Molina and senior Connor Jump recorded hat tricks for the Timberwolves in a nonleague romp over the Dragons.

Jump also had three assists for Lake City (8-0), which has won six of its matches via shutout.

“After possessing the ball for the majority of the first 20 minutes, we had them both physically and mentally exhausted,” Lake City coach Kevin Jump said. “In addition to having very talented players, we also have many high soccer IQ players. Today, I was able to sit back and enjoy watching the boys control the game, the tactics and the position rotations. They made it look so very natural out there. It was another complete team effort today.”

Lake City travels to Coeur d’Alene on Tuesday night.

MOSCOW — Junior midfielder Isaiah Bearshield had a goal and assist for the Trojans in an Inland Empire League win over the Bears at the Moscow School District Community Playfields.

“Isaiah’s goal was just on some hard work,” Post Falls coach John Mueller said. “He had the mindframe he was going to score today, and he did it. He just outhustled the defender and slid it past the keeper. It was just all work ethic.”

Carson Sullivan and Cody Kemp scored in the second half for Post Falls (2-5, 2-3 IEL), which travels to Lake City on Thursday.

“We’ve been trying to come up with something all year and tried a new 3-2-3-2 formation since it was a nonleague game,” Timberlake coach Steve Michael said. “And I think we found something. Doing that gave Lucy some more options at the top and it just worked out for us today.”

“We were a little more composed in front of the net instead of rushing things in the second,” said Lake City coach Matt Ruchti, whose team led 2-0 at halftime. “We took our time and had some good combination play. It was a good response from a poor result against Moscow (on Thursday).”
