THE FRONT ROW with JASON ELLIOTT: Not the start, or day, we wanted

Football is a funny game sometimes.

Sometimes, you win.

Sometimes, you lose.

And sometimes, it just makes you want to quit putting yourself through the agony that is associated with being at the stadium with 67,000 fans.

Last Sunday seemed like one of those days.

THAT BEING said, the game between the Los Angeles Rams and Seattle Seahawks was exactly what you’d might expect between two division rivals.

Hard hitting, competitive and both teams making some plays.

Then, halftime hit.

And one of those teams — Seattle — didn’t finish the game.

How a team can get 12 total yards in the second half — 7 coming on the game’s final play — in a game they were leading after 30 minutes, that was a little frustrating to see.

(To be fair, when you’re at the game, chances are you don’t really pay attention to the total yards anyway.)

At the time, I just knew that the Seahawks defense had been on the field a long time in the second half.

A really, really long time.

During the third quarter, at one point, the Rams were 8 of 10 converting on third down.

It doesn’t really matter if you’re playing the L.A. Rams or a high school team, if you aren’t able to get your team’s defense off the field, whether it is in the first or fourth quarter, your team isn’t going to win that day.

EARLIER THIS summer, the NFL announced that Lumen Field — the home stadium for the Seattle Seahawks — was voted the top stadium in the NFL.

And sure, any other time, that might be the case.

But not last Sunday.

Not even a little bit.

Maybe you can blame the poor showing by the home team that day, or the heat, but the fans that were in attendance didn’t seem too into the game by the fourth quarter.

By the fourth quarter, Seattle didn’t have much of a chance to come back in the game with the way the offense was playing. Then, Cam Akers scored on a 9-yard touchdown run with under 10 minutes remaining, and the line to the exits began forming.

And, for other reasons — basically some unruly fans nearby — I was one of them.

Since-then Seahawks Stadium opened its doors in 2002, I’ve been to 20 games. That being said, it was by far the worst experience I’d had.

Sure, the loss was a terrible feeling, but so was having to leave an event before the game was over.

FORTUNATELY, the season isn’t quite over yet, and there’s a ton of room for improvement, both on and off the field.

Hopefully that process starts sooner than later.

If not, it could be a long year.

Both on and off the field in Seattle.
