COEUR d’ALENE — It wasn't just one guy that kept it clean for North Idaho College.

It was the entire flock.

Kael McGowan, a freshman from Post Falls High, had three saves for the Cardinals in a 3-0 win over the Wenatchee Valley Knights in a Northwest Athletic Conference match at Eisenwinter Field on Wednesday.

“Kael had a really good game, but everyone really contributed to keeping it a clean sheet,” NIC coach Brad Williams said. “We were relentless running all over the field and getting to the ball and dedicated to defending well. But Kael did have a great game.”

Both teams had three shots on goal in the match.

“We wanted to be difficult to play against and stingy on defense,” Williams said. “We were attacking together and the guys carried out the gameplan beautifully.”

NIC (2-2, 1-1 NWAC) hosts the Community Colleges of Spokane on Saturday.

Wenatchee Valley is 2-4, 0-2.

First half — 1, NIC, Spencer Lords (unassisted), 12:09. Second half — 2, NIC, Tegan Newlan (Isaac Fritts), 74:26. 3, NIC, Muhammed Diallo (unassisted), 81:00.

Shots on goal — WVC 3, NIC 3.

Saves — WVC, Miguel Oliveira, 0; NIC, Kael McGowan, 3.

COEUR d’ALENE — Still a work in progress, but the Cardinals didn’t show it much in their conference home opener at Eisenwinter Field.

Adison Stoddard scored on an assist from Kara Michaelis in the seventh minute, one of three first half goals in a shutout of the Knights.

“The girls came out with the possession game ready to go,” NIC coach Kellsi Parson said. “We connected like we wanted and our first goal, it was one of the best goals we’ve had in a long time. I thought we played well and we’re still getting to where we need to be. But we’re 2-0 in conference, so we’ll take it.”

NIC (6-2, 2-0 NWAC) hosts the Community Colleges of Spokane on Saturday.

Wenatchee Valley is 0-3-1, 0-2-0.

ONTARIO, Ore. — Rachael Stacey had 14 kills and 15 digs for the Cardinals, who outlasted the Chukars 31-29, 25-18, 25-27, 25-19 in a Northwest Athletic Conference match.

Grace Keisel had 11 kills, five blocks and two aces, Rylee Hartwig — a sophomore from Post Falls High — 10 kills and three blocks for NIC (9-1, 1-0 NWAC).

“It was very back and forth in that first set,” NIC coach Brittany Tilleman said. “We’d go on a run, then have an unforced error and they’d gain some energy from the crowd. We kind of struggled out of the gate, but did a good job of staying positive and our hitters starting hitting their shots.”

Karolyne Wolfgramm had 44 assists and two aces, Abby Beaton four blocks for NIC, which competes in the Bellevue Crossover on Friday and Saturday.

Addison Raebel, a freshman from Lakeland High, had 15 kills and six digs for Treasure Valley (3-5, 1-1).
