More candidates certified for November election

COEUR d’ALENE — The Hayden mayoral race has a second candidate, as does the race for Hayden City Council Seat 3, currently occupied by Roger Saterfiel.

Luke Sommer and Alan Davis will square off for Hayden mayor. Scott Forssel, who was appointed mayor of Hayden in 2022, announced in August that he won’t seek election. Meanwhile, Tom Shafer will challenge incumbent Saterfiel for the city council seat.

The deadline for candidates to file their declarations of candidacy for the Nov. 7 election was Sept. 8, but districts have until Friday to certify candidate filings to the Kootenai County elections office. That means more candidates have popped up on the county’s publicly available list, while a few more are still expected to appear.

Kootenai County Clerk Jennifer Locke said her office certified three candidates Wednesday for Kellogg Joint School District Trustee Zone 5, which is shared between Kootenai and Shoshone counties.

Two write-in candidates have filed for Northern Lakes Fire Protection District 4. This means an official write-in line will appear on ballots, along with candidate James C. Washko.
