Potter, Coeur d'Alene
boys triumph at McCall tourney
McCALL — Coeur d’Alene junior Grant Potter shot an even-par 72 to lead the Vikings to the boys team title at the inaugural Mike McCrady Memorial Tournament on Tuesday at the Jug Mountain Ranch Golf Course.
Coeur d’Alene won with a 305, nine shots better than Rocky Mountain of Meridian, which finished second with a 314.
"Anytime (girls) coach (Jeff) Lake and I have the opportunity to have our players compete against challenging teams on challenging courses, we take it," Coeur d'Alene boys coach Chase Bennett said. "I was most proud of our girls and boys mental grit today. Jug Mountain Ranch is a difficult track to play without prior course knowledge. It's important to take our athletes out of their comfort zone before we get to districts and state."
Coeur d’Alene’s girls, led by sophomore Sophia Vignale’s 85, finished third.
Jane Barry of Rocky Mountain was girls medalist with a 75, leading the Grizzlies to the team title.

LEWISTON — Lake City senior midfielder Connor Jump had two goals and an assist in an Inland Empire League win over the Bengals at Walker Field.
“Lewiston is a tricky place to play because of the field conditions,” Lake City coach Kevin Jump said. “Our attacking play was strong today because we were able to hold possession for the majority of the match. Unfortunately, our finishing didn’t cooperate, mostly due to the poor field conditions. But I was pleased we got another clean sheet. We never take for granted getting a clean sheet, because in soccer it takes one bad bounce, one slip, one slightly misplayed ball and all our hard work gets negated.”
Lake City (6-0, 6-0 IEL) hosts Moscow in a nonleague match on Thursday.
Lewiston is 0-7-1, 0-4-1.
