LEWISTON — Junior defender Giovanni Carlino was everywhere in Saturday’s Inland Empire League match for the Post Falls Trojans.

In the right place on defense.

Then again, when it really mattered in the 45th minute.

Carlino converted a header on a corner kick by Brady Christensen for the lone goal in a 1-0 win over the Lewiston Bengals at Walker Field.

“We moved the ball well and had ample opportunities to score,” said Post Falls coach John Mueller, whose team outshot Lewiston 10-1. “Gio really broke up all of their attack. He was a beast and played great. Everyone did, but Gio had the game of his season so far.”

Post Falls (1-3-0, 1-2-0 IEL) travels to Sandpoint on Tuesday.

Lewiston (0-6-1, 0-4-1) hosts Lake City on Tuesday.

First half — none. Second half — 1, PF, Giovanni Carlino (Blake Christensen), 45:00.

Shots on goal — PF 10, Lew 1.

RATHDRUM — After playing what coach Nick Haynes called “probably the best game we’ve played so far this year,” the host Hawks gave up a goal off a corner kick in the final minute and settled for the Inland Empire League tie with the Bears at Sunrise Rotary Fields.

“It left a bitter taste in their mouth, which is good,” Haynes said. “Earlier in the year they might have been happy with a tie; now they're unhappy.”

Senior Hudson Drake scored in the 53rd minute for Lakeland (0-3-1, 0-2-1 IEL), his third goal in three games. After playing all season at center back, he was moved up to offensive midfielder for this game by Haynes.

“All his goals are hustle goals,” Haynes said. “He works harder than anyone out there.”

Lakeland is scheduled to play host to Post Falls on Thursday for senior night.

Moscow is 0-4-1, 0-2-1.

First half — none. Second half — 1, LL, Hudson Drake (unassisted), 53:00. 2, Mos, Baxter Harmon, 90:00.

Coeur d’Alene Charter (3-0-1, 3-0-0 IML) hosts Timberlake on Wednesday at The Fields.

COEUR d’ALENE — The chances were there, but weren’t going through for the Vikings in the first half.

Then, sophomore Gianna Callari stepped in.

Callari had two goals and two assists for the Vikings in an Inland Empire League win over the Trojans at Viking Field.

“Gianna kind of got things going for us,” Coeur d’Alene coach Andy Vredenburg said. “She just seems to find the right spots on the field. Whether she’s scoring goals, or creating them, she’s always in the mix.”

Senior forward Remi Menier had a goal and an assist for Coeur d’Alene (4-2-0, 4-1-0 IEL), which hosts Lewiston on Thursday.

MOSCOW — It was a decent start and finish for the Hawks.

The middle is where they’ll continue to build on.

The host Bears scored goals two minutes apart in the second half to pull away for the Inland Empire League win over the Hawks at the Moscow School District Community Playfields.

“It was 2-1 at the half and we were still in contention,” Lakeland coach Kevin Rogge said. “Moscow’s a great team, they have some speed and they move the ball really well. We were right with them and they scored back-to-back goals that kind of hurt us. But our kids worked hard and scored late, so it was nice to get rewarded for that.”

Lakeland (1-4-0, 1-4-0 IEL) travels to Bonners Ferry on Monday.

Moscow is 3-2-1, 2-1-0.
