| September 8, 2023 1:20 AM

RATHDRUM — Landree Simon had 11 kills and Lakeland rallied after dropping the first set to beat Lake City 23-25, 25-13, 25-14, 25-23 in Inland Empire League play Thursday night at Hawk Court.

Ziya Munyer had eight kills, 10 blocks and four aces for Lakeland (3-2, 1-1 IEL). Alyssa Ryckman had 10 kills, Ella Terzulli 18 assists, Olivia Zazuetta 16 assists, Addy Hocking 22 digs and three aces, Alexis Hanna 13 digs and three aces, Layla Benson six kills.

“We served tough tonight and came away with some aces at key moments,” Lakeland coach Kelsie Badger said. “Layla Benson had a great night and brought a lot of energy to the court by making some big plays when we needed the momentum. Alexis and Addy were very scrappy and picked up some tough hits. Ziya and Ashleigh (Feld) were aggressive at the net and made some key plays.”

Jessalyn Wilson had 16 kills for Lake City (1-4, 1-3). Taylor Winey had 26 assists, Lola Jeanselme 16 digs, Ava Johnson six kills.

“Lakeland’s momentum really challenged us tonight,” Lake City coach Michelle Kleinberg said. “We had moments of our own, but we struggled to control our side of the net, and had too many missed opportunities. Despite the bumps, our bench stayed positive and I’m proud of how we’re growing as a team off the court. We’ll keep chipping away at it.”

Lakeland competes at the Freeman Rip-A-Shot tournament on Saturday.

Lake City returns to action Tuesday at home against Sandpoint.
