Still summer, but dreaming of 'Winter Lights'
COEUR d'ALENE — It's summer for two more weeks, but the Coeur d’Alene Downtown Association is already dreaming of "Winter Lights."
The new, illuminated outdoor art experience is scheduled to run evenings from Jan. 26 to Feb. 4 in the downtown area.
"Our hope for this event is that it will bring light to the dreary shoulder season of winter and create a positive economic impact for the local businesses," said Emily Boyd, Downtown Association executive director.
Locals and visitors can journey through a wonderland of about 15 large-scale, light-based artworks, interactive displays and colorfully lit sculptures.
It will be free and feature local artists and international installations from B!gArt, based in Alberta, Canada.
Boyd said the concept of Winter Lights has been a dream of the downtown association board for over a decade.
"With the sponsorship of STCU and the partnership with the city of Coeur d’Alene Arts Commission, we are finally able to bring it to fruition for the community during a time of year when the community needs some brightness,” Boyd said.
Ezra Eckhardt, STCU chief executive officer, said they are proud to support the event and "shine a light on our downtown businesses and vibrant arts community."
“We have served the greater Coeur d’Alene area for more than 15 years and are committed to driving economic growth for our members and the community," Eckhardt said.
Winter Lights’ launch event, Illuminate, is scheduled Jan. 26.
